I have received the following congratulatory note from Sir Ivor Crewe, Master of University College, Oxford University where I studied as an undergraduate.
“Dear Jee Say,
Just to send you my commiserations on not winning election as President but warm congratulations on securing such a significant share of the vote (25%!) against two PAP-connected candidates. The reports in the Western media are very clear that the vote marks a significant movement towards more independent voting by the Singapore people, something that I’m sure your candidacy did much to encourage.
My warm regards to you, Patricia and the family,
Sir Ivor Crewe
